The Track

Unlike our Gauteng Colleagues, who have the luxury and access to a variety of tracks in their area, we have just the on Premier track in the Cape Town area - Killarney Race Track.
This has it's pro's and cons.  Whilst it is challenging and exciting to try out new tracks, this can also be costly.  Cars have to be set up differently every time and travelling to further venues can also be costly, as tow cars, trailors and/or A-Frames have to used.

The Cape Town GTi Challenge Team will however, endeavour to arrange meetings with our Gauteng Colleagues, at remote venues such as Kyalami (JHB) & Aldo Scribante (PE) Race Tracks.  The aim is to have joint meetings like this twice a year with the obvious invitation to the Gauteng Competitors to join us at our track in the Mother City.
The GTi Club have always enjoyed using Killarney Race Track for other events such as the popular "GTi Jamboree" (since 1986) and more recently, "VW vs Opel" and "Germany vs Japan".

Killarney is situated just past the Caltex Refineries on Koeberg Road and behind the growing area of Tableview.  As can be seen from the above arial picture, Killarney provides breathtaking views with Table mountain as a backdrop on clear days.  The track is run by the Western Province Motorclub or WPMC (est 1938), and has been around since 1947.  It is home to many other forms of Motorsport, such as Motorcross, Karting, Formula M, Oval Track (Hell Drivers) and the WPMC Drags Section.  The other sub sections of the WPMC are - Clubmans/Saloon Car Racing, Motorcycles, Classic/Sports Cars & Spirit Supercars, which together with the GTi Challenge, form part of the regular Regular Regional Race Days.  Each of the Formulas take turns to race at the National Race Days as well.

The track is an average length at just over 3kms and provides for some very competitive driving with fast & slow corners and plenty of space for overtaking.  The main straight is well used by the WP Drags Club on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons, with the popular ΒΌ Mile Drags taking place.
